Supernova Galaxy Orbs sends Hacksaw Gaming into space, although this is less Interstellar and more an old fruit machine accidentally launched into orbit. The background is filled with stars, purple cosmic ribbons and glowing lights, while the reels themselves stick with cherries, grapes, bells and other classic casino symbols. It is a strange mix of retro and sci-fi, but at least the game knows exactly what it wants to be.
More surprising is how traditional everything feels for Hacksaw Gaming. Instead of another brutally volatile monster packed with strange modifiers, Supernova Galaxy Orbs settles into a fairly straightforward Hold & Win setup. Red Orbs trigger respins, Blue Orbs collect Coin values instantly and a separate free spins round increases the chances of getting the main feature going. There are a few clever touches in the Orb system, but this is definitely Hacksaw on its calmer and more familiar side.
Supernova Galaxy Orbs uses 5 reels, 4 rows and 26 fixed paylines. Regular wins form from left to right across adjacent reels, while Wilds substitute for the normal paying symbols.
The default RTP is 96.23%, although lower 94.40%, 92.35% and 86.33% versions are also available. Volatility is medium, the hit frequency is 41.61%, and the maximum win reaches 5,000x the bet through the top jackpot prize. Bets range from 0.10 to 200 per spin.
The main mechanics revolve around Red and Blue Orbs. Red Orbs launch the Hold & Win round, while Blue Orbs can collect Coin and Jackpot values immediately during normal play. The Sphere Factor bonus adds free spins with more Red Orb activity, and Hacksaw also throws in several FeatureSpins options for anyone who wants to skip the waiting.
At heart, Supernova Galaxy Orbs is a very traditional payline slot. The 5×4 grid and 26 paylines handle the normal wins, with card ranks, fruit and bells filling most of the reels. The Wild can appear across the grid and substitutes for regular paying symbols.
Those regular wins are not really why anyone is boarding this particular spaceship, though. Most of the interesting action comes from the Coin symbols and the two Orb collectors. The setup is simple enough that you know almost immediately what you are waiting for: Coins first, Orb second.
The main Coin symbols come in 4 tiers. Bronze Coins pay between 0.2x and 2x, Silver Coins between 3x and 10x, Gold Coins between 15x and 50x, and Diamond Coins can carry values from 100x all the way to 1,000x the bet.
Then there are Jackpot symbols, which reveal their prize at the end of a Hold & Win sequence. The possible awards are Mini 10x, Major 50x, Mega 500x or the full 5,000x Max Win Jackpot.
The Blue Orb is the simpler collector. When one lands, it immediately collects the values of all Coin and Jackpot symbols currently on the grid after regular line wins have been paid. Up to 3 Blue Orbs can land on the same spin, and each one collects the full amount rather than splitting it between them. Red and Blue Orbs cannot appear together.
That multiple-collector idea is one of the nicer touches here. One Blue Orb landing next to a screen full of Coins is useful; two or three doing exactly the same job can suddenly make the spin considerably more interesting.
Landing a Red Orb triggers the Hold & Win feature after any normal wins have been settled. The round begins with 3 respins, and Coins, Jackpot symbols and Red Orbs lock into place. Whenever a new Coin, Jackpot or Red Orb lands, the respin counter resets back to 3.
Up to 3 Red Orbs can be active on the grid. When the feature ends, Jackpot symbols reveal their values and every Red Orb collects the complete total of all Coin and Jackpot prizes. This means a second Orb does not simply help fill another position – it effectively collects the same pot again.
That is easily the most interesting part of an otherwise very familiar Hold & Win setup. The basic “land a Coin and reset to three lives” structure has been seen countless times, but watching another Orb arrive once the board is already loaded gives the feature a proper extra target beyond simply filling empty positions.
Landing 3, 4 or 5 Scatters triggers the Sphere Factor Bonus with 10, 15 or 20 free spins, respectively. During the bonus, Red Orbs appear more frequently, making Hold & Win sequences easier to trigger, and Coin symbols have a minimum value of 1x.
The bonus can also be extended. Landing 2 Scatters adds 3 extra spins, while 3, 4 or 5 Scatters award 5, 7 or 10 additional spins.
It is not exactly a complete transformation of the game. Sphere Factor mostly takes the mechanics you already have and makes the useful parts show up more often. That keeps things simple, but it also makes the free spins feel more like an upgraded version of the base game than a completely separate event.
Hacksaw Gaming offers several FeatureSpins options.
BonusHunt FeatureSpins cost 2x the normal bet and make a bonus trigger around 3 times more likely.
Cosmic FeatureSpins cost 75x and guarantee a Red Orb, immediately launching a Hold & Win sequence where the minimum Coin value is 1x.
Galactic FeatureSpins jump all the way to 500x the bet. The spin guarantees 1–5 Blue Orbs, while the remaining positions are filled with Coins worth at least 1x or Jackpot symbols.
Finally, the Sphere Factor Bonus can be bought directly for 65x the bet.
The menu gives players plenty of routes into the good stuff, although Galactic FeatureSpins at 500x is quite the jump for a game capped at 5,000x. At least there is a good spread between the modest 2x boost and the more reckless options.
Supernova Galaxy Orbs is a slightly strange Hacksaw Gaming release, mostly because it feels so normal. The retro fruit-machine look mixed with space is harmless enough, but it does not have the personality of the studio's stronger themes.
The Orb system saves things. Having multiple collectors scoop the same Coin values gives the Hold & Win a bit more character than the most basic versions of the mechanic, and medium volatility makes the whole thing noticeably less aggressive than the Hacksaw norm.
Still, this is a studio known for doing much stranger and more ambitious things. Supernova Galaxy Orbs works perfectly fine as a straightforward Hold & Win, but it feels more like a safe trip around the planet than a journey into unexplored space.
