Aztec temples and 70s disco probably should not work together, but Disco Inferno happily ignores that problem. Red Tiger fills the screen with neon lights, mirror balls and ancient-inspired characters, turning the whole thing into a wonderfully tacky temple party.
Behind the flashing lights is a slot built heavily around collecting Coins. Regular line wins play a supporting role while Collectors, respins and a growing Coin Multiplier do most of the interesting work. It gives Disco Inferno a clear identity, even if the basic collect mechanic itself is hardly new territory.
Disco Inferno plays across a 5×5 grid with 25 fixed paylines. Its RTP reaches 96.16%, volatility is high and the maximum win is 12,500x the bet. Expanding Wilds can appear on reels 2–5, covering the entire reel while substituting for regular paying symbols.
The real focus sits elsewhere, though. Coins can appear with cash values or much larger fixed prizes, and the game constantly tries to pair them with Collector symbols. This makes the base game feel more like preparation for a good collection sequence than a traditional paylines slot, especially once respins and the Coin Multiplier start getting involved.
Coin values range from 0.25x to 20x, with additional prizes of 50x, 100x, 250x, 1,000x and 12,500x. A regular Collector grabs the values of Coins currently visible on the grid.
The more interesting version is the Nudge Collector, which can appear on either outer reel. After collecting the Coins, it triggers a Respin and moves one position downward. This continues until the Collector reaches the bottom, giving new Coins several chances to join the party.
A separate Coin Multiplier starts at 1x and can climb as high as 10x. Landing two Scatters increases it by one level, and the multiplier applies to collected Coin prizes.
Three Scatters award 10 Free Spins. During the bonus, one Scatter adds one spin, two add three spins and increase the Coin Multiplier by one level, while three add five spins.
Triggering the bonus with a Super Scatter upgrades it to 10 Super Free Spins. These follow the same basic rules, but the first spin guarantees a Nudge Collector at the top of one of the outer reels. That gives the stronger bonus an immediate chance to start a longer collection sequence.
Disco Inferno offers several ways to pay for stronger feature chances:
The Nudge Collector and bonus purchases can also begin with a randomly increased Coin Multiplier, up to its maximum level.
Disco Inferno has enough personality to rise above the average Coin Collector, even if it never completely escapes the familiar formula. The neon Aztec theme is silly in a good way, while the Nudge Collector and persistent multiplier give the collection mechanic a little more depth than simply waiting for Coins and a Collector to meet.
Still, most of the excitement depends on those Coins. When they refuse to cooperate, there is not much else carrying the game. It is easy to understand and occasionally very lively, but not quite a new disco classic.
