The Great Herd is played on a 6×5 grid with a scatter pays system instead of traditional paylines. Wins are formed when at least 8 matching symbols land anywhere on the grid. After a win, winning symbols disappear and new symbols drop into the empty spaces, which can create more wins from the same spin.

The default RTP is 96.01%, with lower versions also listed at 94.01%, 92.01% and 90.01%. The volatility is high, the hit frequency is 22.45%, and the maximum win is 15,000x the bet.

The game is mainly built around a wildlife themed base game and two free spins modes. The bigger hooks are stored multipliers, the Golden Bull and feature buy options, but those are better unpacked in the next section.

• Basics: The Great Herd does not use fixed paylines. A win is created when 8 or more matching symbols land anywhere on the 6×5 grid. After a winning combination lands, the winning symbols disappear and new symbols fall into the empty spaces. This continues for as long as new wins are formed from the same spin.
• Multiplier: When the multiplier is active, every winning connection adds the number of its winning symbols to the multiplier meter. The multiplier is stored until it is activated by the Golden Bull.
• Golden Bull: The Golden Bull activates the stored multiplier and applies it to the total win of the current spin. Only one Golden Bull can land per spin, and if it appears without a win to multiply, it does not add value.
• Free Spins: Landing 3 Scatters in the base game triggers Buffalo Ascension, while 4 Scatters trigger Spirits of Buffalo. Both modes start with 15 free spins and use the same core tumbling setup, but the multiplier behaviour is different.
  • In Buffalo Ascension, the multiplier remains active across several spins until the Golden Bull lands and activates it. After that, the multiplier resets and starts building again.
  • In Spirits of Buffalo, the multiplier stays active for the full feature and does not reset when the Golden Bull activates it, giving the round much higher build-up potential.
