Tools Outside the Casino
Casino tools only protect you at one casino. These work across all of them.
National self-exclusion registers
Where a national register exists, one sign-up excludes you from every participating licensed operator at once.
| Country | Register | Notes |
| United Kingdom | GAMSTOP | Free, covers online operators licensed in Great Britain. Six months, one year or five years |
| United Kingdom | MOSES and SENSE | In-person self-exclusion for betting shops (MOSES) and casinos (SENSE) |
| Sweden | Spelpaus | National register |
| Denmark | ROFUS | National register |
| Germany | OASIS | National register |
| Netherlands | CRUKS | National register |
| Spain | RGIAJ | National register |
| Estonia | HAMPI | One email request excludes you from all Estonian-licensed casinos |
| United States | State by state | State gaming regulators run their own lists |
| Canada | Operator and provincial | Provincial operators such as PlayNow and Espacejeux run their own self-exclusion options |
Honest limit: registers only cover licensed, participating operators. A site outside the scheme is not affected. That’s why blockers and payment blocks matter.
Blocking software
Blockers stop gambling sites and apps from loading on your device, whichever casino you try.
| Tool | Cost | Good to know |
| BetBlocker | Free | Works on Windows, Mac, iOS, Android and more. You set a restriction period from 24 hours to 5 years, and you can’t remove it until that period ends |
| Gamban | Paid subscription | Blocks thousands of gambling sites and apps worldwide. Free for UK residents through GamCare |
| GamBlock | Paid | Another dedicated gambling blocker |
| Net Nanny, Bark | Paid | General parental controls with gambling filters. Easier to work around than dedicated blockers |
Install the blocker on every device you own, including your phone and tablet. A blocker on only your laptop protects your laptop.
Bank and card blocks
A growing number of banks let you block gambling transactions on your debit or credit card, often in the banking app or by calling support. These blocks work through the merchant category code used for gambling (MCC 7995). Ask your bank whether it offers this.
Important limit: a card block stops card payments only. Pay-by-bank services and e-wallets run on different rails and are not affected, so a card block is a strong extra layer, never a full solution.
Phone and browser settings
- Use Screen Time (iOS) or Digital Wellbeing (Android) to limit or block gambling apps and sites
- Delete casino apps and bookmarks
- Remove saved card details from your browser, phone wallet and app stores
- Log out of casino accounts and don’t save passwords
Every extra step between you and a deposit is a pause where you can change your mind.
A separate gambling budget
Keep gambling money apart from everyday money: a separate bank account, or a prepaid card you top up once a month. When it’s empty, the month is over, whatever your main account holds.
